Questions That Bring Characters to Life - For Fiction, Documentary, and Interviews

Great stories don’t start with answers, they start with questions that open something.

In this workshop, we explore question techniques that bring characters, real people, and entire story worlds to life. Drawing from my experience in systemic coaching, documentary interviewing, and fiction writing, we work with questions that don’t just collect information, but generate surprise, specificity, tension, and emotional charge.

We look at: – questions that unlock vivid, concrete moments instead of general talk – ways to break clichés and access the unexpected – “engine questions” that unfold story momentum and inner drive – how to interview real people so their answers almost feel cinematic – how to translate interview material into fiction (and back)

An interactive workshop where we playfully test questions on each other and experiment with our own creative material, though everyone shares only as much as feels right.

The questions can be used for writing, filmmaking, interviews, or simply to move beyond surface-level conversations in everyday life.
