WRITING IN THE DARK
If you switch off the light in the room, you switch on the light in your head. In deep black darkness a lighting pen will guide you through your writing. By blocking out images in front of your eyes, this session leads you to new ways of visual storytelling.
THE LOLLIPOP OF CONTRADICTION
Juno MacGuff switches between highly irresponsible and highly responsible. This seminar shows you how contradiction deepens your characters and why lollipops are the best tools to create those dynamics. Furthermore you will learn how your story grows when lollipops turn into rotary drums.
THE MAGIC OF MISAPPROPRIATION
An elephant in your bath tub might be a bad match but will lift you up onto a new level of creativity. This cliché-breaking session will teach you how things that seem out of place open doors when you are at a dead end. Find out how to create touching characters by combining hamburgers and telephones.
LET THE DIALOGUES FLOW
Dialogues may seem the hardest and you don't know how to inspirit them. Sometimes they even taste like dry wood. Katti equips you with unique tools to let your dialogues flow like ping-pong. Learn how to spice them up, enliven them and cause tension between the lines.
BLOW LIFE INTO YOUR CHARACTERS
If you equip flat characters with personality items it is just like attaching a sticker to an empty balloon. This session will show you why safety pins and fingernails blow life into your characters. Let's create characters who also exist outside your story, not only within.
If there is too much good, it turns into evil. The snake bites in its own tail. When orphan Esther kills a bird to "put it out of its misery" her dark and her bright side connect. This session teaches you how these Ouroboros mechanics open a completely new perspective on your theme.
WORDS, SOUNDS AND PICTURES
How to put meaning between the lines? What do we create if we combine a picture of a tree with the sound of a toilet flushing and voice over words claiming "Tomorrow"? What sounds make us feel heartbroken? What pictures enthusiasm? This session teaches you how to exploit film language on the verbal, visual and audio level.
Behind every scratch, there is a history. How can we show our characters' backstories without using flashbacks and verbal explanations? This session will teach you why confusion is key to fascinating backstories. You will also learn how inside jokes show backstories without telling them. Find out why neologisms like 'Age-BeeBee' shape individual character backgrounds.
ALL ABOUT MIND MAPPING
"Out of jealousy I'm cutting off his long eye-lashes. Out of jealousy my sister learns how to dance like a butterfly. Which brings me back to the question whether there is a difference between destructive and productive jealousy ..." This session shows you how mind maps structure those kind of thoughts and even shape them into thrilling stories.
MISSING SUNDAYS LEAD TO BREAK-UPS
When Sally's "Sunday" of her day-of-the-week-underwear is missing, she has to tell Harry that she just broke up with her boyfriend. This session teaches you how to show something profound by pointing out a tiny detail like a non-existent "Sunday". Learn how to at the same time individualize and universalize your characters.
